The NCP1616 is a high-voltage PFC controller that drives a PFC boost stage based on an innovative current-controlled frequency foldback (CCFF) mode. In this mode, the circuit operates in critical conduction mode (CrM) when the inductor current exceeds a programmed value. When the current falls below this preset level, the NCP1616 will decrease the frequency linearly to a minimum of 26kHz at the sinusoidal zero crossing. CCFF maximizes energy efficiency at nominal and light loads. In particular, standby losses are minimized. Innovative circuitry achieves near-unity power factor even at reduced switching frequency. An integrated high-voltage start-up circuit requires no external start-up components and consumes very little power during normal operation. Using SOIC-9 encapsulation, the NCP1616 has the features required for a robust and compact PFC stage with few external components.
