The NCP1081, part of ON Semiconductor's high power HIPO Power over Ethernet Device (PoE-PD) family, is a rugged, flexible and highly integrated solution for demanding medium to high power Ethernet applications. It combines an enhanced PoE-PD interface fully compliant with IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at (Draft 3.0) specifications and a configurable DC-DC converter controller in one device. The superior features of the NCP1081 open up new opportunities for the design of products powered directly from Ethernet without the need for a local power adapter or power cord, greatly reducing overall installation and maintenance costs. ON Semiconductor's unique manufacturing process and design enhancements enable the NCP1081 to deliver up to 25 W of IEEE 802.3at (Draft 3.0) compliant power and up to 40 W for dedicated high-power PoE applications. The NCP1081 complies with the IEEE 802.3at (Draft 3.0) standard, implementing a two-event layer Class 1 classification. Additional proprietary classification processes support bulk power supply equipment (PSE) on the market. These unique high-power capabilities will bring the clear cost advantages of PoE-enabled systems to a wide variety of products in emerging markets such as Industrial Ethernet, PTZ and Dome IP cameras, RFID, MIMO WLAN access points, notebook computers, and more. Manufactured using a durable high-voltage process, the NCP1081 integrates a rugged vertical N-channel DMOS with low-loss current-sensing technology for the most demanding environments and can withstand harsh environments such as hot-swap and line ESD events.
