The N84C1611 is a complete memory and supervisory solution for microcontroller-based systems. An EEPROM serial 16-Kb CPU supervisor with hardware memory write protection, a system power supply supervisor with undervoltage protection, and a supervisory timer are integrated in a low-power CMOS process. The memory interface is implemented via the I?C bus. If a software or hardware failure causes the system to suspend or "hang", the 1.6-second supervisory circuitry returns the system to a known normal state.The CAT1161 supervisor monitors a dedicated SDA line, eliminating the need for an additional PC motherboard trace. The power supply supervisory circuitry protects memory and system controllers and resets them during power on/off and for undervoltage conditions. Five reset threshold voltages support 5.0 V, 3.3 V, and 3.0 V systems. If the supply voltage is outside the tolerance range, the reset signal becomes active and prevents the system microcontroller, ASIC, or peripheral from operating. The reset signal typically becomes inactive after the supply voltage exceeds the reset threshold level for 200 ms. Connecting the microcontroller and other integrated circuits with valid high and low reset signals is simple. In addition, the reset pin can be used as an anti-bounce input for the pushbutton manual reset capability.The CAT1161 memory has 16-byte pages. In addition, hardware data protection is provided by a write-protect pin, WP, and a VCC sense circuit that prevents writes to the memory until VCC drops below the reset threshold or until VCC reaches the reset threshold during power-up. Available in 8-pin DIP and surface mount 8-pin SO encapsulation.
